CAP Agar
(Sheep blood agar with colistin and aztreonam)


Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis on CAP Agar. Cultivation 24 hours, aerobic atmosphere, 37°C. CAP agar is a medium used for isolation of Gram-positive bacteria. Colonies of S.aureus surrounded by a zone of hemolysis (beta hemolysis), colonies of E.faecalis without hemolysis (gamma hemolysis).

 
 
Microscopy:
Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, tend to be arranged in grape-like clusters.
