Klebsiella pnemoniae is biochemically very active and ferments most sugars (in this case all yellow wells after ONPG:
adonitol, cellobiose, sucrose, trehalose, mannitol and after esculin: sorbitol, rhamnose, melibiose, raffinose, dulcitol and glucose).
Negative tests for Klebsiella pneumoniae are:
- Indole production
- Hydrogen sulfide production
- Ornithine decarboxylase
- Arginine dihydrolase
- Phenylalanine deaminase
