Bacterial colonies on the red slope(glucose fermentation) are lactose negative, non-gas producing from glucose, mannitol positive is Shigella sonnei. To confirm this identification you have to test other biochemical properties of the strain (usually a commercial test)
and aglutination in shigella specific polyvalent and monovalent antisera.
Bacterial colonies on the blue slope(urea positive),hydrogen sulfide positive(black precipitate under cover-slip) is Budvicia aquatica. This bacterium is rare in clinical samples and most probably
not nonpathoenic.
